ICE Release Scope
ICE detention is federal civil immigration custody. It is not a county jail sentence, an Idaho prison term, or BOP confinement. The Online Detainee Locator can cover people currently detained and some people released from ICE within the preceding 60 days. It excludes minors and may not contain every person.
Search ICE only with a sound immigration-custody reason. A change in the Nez Perce County list does not by itself establish an ICE transfer. Ask the sheriff for the county release or transfer disposition when a known county booking ended.
Search ICE Release Status
Open the official ICE Online Detainee Locator. One search uses the A-number and country of birth. The other uses exact first and last name, country of birth, and optional date of birth. An A-number must be padded to nine digits. Exact spelling matters.
- Choose the A-number search when a verified number is known.
- Enter country of birth and the nine-digit form of the number.
- Otherwise use the exact name and country-of-birth route.
- Read the returned ICE custody information within its stated scope.
- Use ICE help or ERO routing when a supported immigration case produces no result.
No result has several possible causes. The name may differ, the number may be wrong, the person may fall outside the recent-release window, the record may be excluded, or another custodian may control the person. Do not label a no-result as release.
Note: Save the spelling, identifier, search date, and ICE result so a later status check can be compared accurately.
ICE Release Meanings
Immigration outcomes must be described with care. ICE release may involve conditions. A removal is not a community release in Nez Perce County. A transfer can move a person to another ICE site or custodian. The locator status alone may not explain the full route.

Ask ICE or the proper legal representative which record can confirm the precise immigration outcome. The county sheriff can only certify its own exit or transfer event.
ICE County Transfer Records
If a person was last known at the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center, first check the sheriff's current-only list and call detention. When the county states that another agency received the person, request the focused county booking and release disposition. Ask for any publicly disclosable hold or transfer destination without demanding restricted transport details.
The county record establishes when Nez Perce County custody ended and may identify the receiving authority. ICE controls what happened within immigration custody. Keeping both records prevents the county exit from being mislabeled as final release.

ICE Versus Federal Prison
ICE and BOP are different federal systems. BOP covers sentenced federal prisoners and retains many historical release results from 1982 onward. ICE handles civil immigration detention and has a much shorter recent-release locator window. USMS commonly handles federal pretrial and court custody.

A person can pass from one system to another. Each result must be tied to its custodian and date.
ICE Tribal Jurisdiction Boundary
The Nez Perce Tribe maintains a sovereign police, court, probation, and corrections pathway. Tribal custody is not ICE custody, and the county list cannot settle either question. A tribal registry also is not an immigration or release list.

Verify ICE Release Proof
The best sequence begins with a verified immigration reason and correct identifier. Read the live ICE result, then seek ERO confirmation when needed. If the person came from the county jail, retain the county transfer disposition as a separate record. If removal or another custodian is involved, do not describe the outcome as a local return.
Report only what the source proves. ICE proves immigration custody. The sheriff proves county custody. IDOC proves state status. BOP proves BOP control. A missing result in one does not answer the others.
A strong record of the check includes the exact name or A-number form used, country of birth, search date, and status wording. If ICE directs the inquiry to ERO, note that referral and the date of any response. Do not publish extra personal data merely because it helped distinguish a match.
Recent-release coverage is limited. Once the locator window passes, a focused ICE record route or other official documentation may be needed. A county court entry cannot replace that immigration record, and a county transfer entry proves only that local custody ended. Keep the two events separate even when they occurred on the same day.
